Pawpaw fruits are harvested from late August to mid-October. During the harvest season, each pawpaw fruit must be hand tested to see if it is ready to be harvested. This means that each fruit must be gently squeezed to see if it is softening. This must be done at least once in every two days. Otherwise, the fruit may over ripen and fall off the tree and not be sellable.
Pawpaws are sold at Ajinmonosato and Michinoekki in Kyotanba, Kyoto. Popo Garden’s pawpaws are also available to be shipped throughout Japan, and since pawpaws ripen quickly, they are shipped immediately after harvest via cool refrigeration. Please be sure to track your purchase and be home to receive the package. Popo Gardens will phone each buyer before filling their order to insure someone will be home to receive the package.
Two sizes are offered:
- Small box (4–6 fruits) ¥3,000 (tax included) + shipping & handling
- Large box (5–7 fruits) ¥5,000 (tax included) + shipping & handling (Size varies depending on the fruit. Payment is by cash on delivery only.)
※ Pre-orders are accepted from late July.
※ As this is a fresh food product, returns and exchanges are not accepted.

Trees and Seed for Sale
For those who would like to grow their own pawpaws: seeds, scion, grafted trees, and seedlings are available. Most of our grafted trees come from U.S. imported scion and specialized seeds from the States. Most notably from Cliff England, Jerry Lehman and from the Kentucky University Pawpaw program. Potted trees are sold in deep pots that give the taproot more room to grow downward.
Pricing
Tree price is determined by quality and age/size. Scion and seeds are priced according to quality. Please inquire as to availability and we will get back to you with prices and availability.
