About Popo Gardens
Popo Gardens is a small orchard located in the mountains of Kyotanba, Kyoto Prefecture.
First planted in 2010, it has become a vibrant and beautiful orchard, with small additions of kiwi, blueberry, Jujube, feijoa - (cold-hardy guava) and persimmon. There are currently about 700 popo trees.
What is a Pawpaw?
Pawpaw is a fruit native to North America and is also known as "forest custard" and "forest ice cream."
It's creamy and sweet, and tastes like a cross between banana, mango and something else.
Currently, there are few farmers in Japan cultivating it, and since it has a short self-life, it is not sold in regular supermarkets. Even in America this fruit is not well known and hence is referred to as the "phantom fruit." At its inception, Popo Gardens imported quality scion and seed that were not readily available in Japan, and now sells grafted trees, seedlings, scion and seeds from this source. Bareroot trees may also be available upon request.
